Granite Peak has long felt like one of Montana’s wildest mountains. Remote, rugged, and tucked deep into the Beartooths, it carries the kind of presence that makes you feel small in the best way. This circular rope piece was inspired by the dramatic ridgelines and layered granite faces of the state’s highest peak, paired with an almost surreal sunset palette pulled from long summer evenings in the mountains.
Built entirely from retired climbing rope, each section of color and texture was carefully selected to create movement through the rock, snow, and sky. The circular composition gives the piece a feeling of looking through a window into the alpine, where sharp granite walls rise above rolling terrain and glacial valleys.
Like all Hyalite Designs pieces, this artwork gives retired climbing rope a second life, carrying the history of the mountains into a new form.
