I’ve never spent much time hiking in New England, but I’m married to someone who has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail—and his siblings have too—so I know how iconic this mountain is. When I finished this piece, my husband said I should’ve called it “The Finish Line.” He’s not wrong, but I have a feeling I’ll be making another version of this mountain someday, so maybe I’ll save that name for the next one.
Honestly, when I first started designing this piece, I wasn’t super psyched. It’s been requested a lot over the years, but I never felt especially inspired to bring it to life. That changed the moment I stepped back and saw it finished. I really love how it turned out. And I think that feeling mirrors what a lot of people love about the mountains in New England—they might not be towering granite spires or dramatic cliffs, but they’re stunning in a quieter, deeply rooted kind of way.
