When I first started making rope art, I almost never outlined my work. But as I collected more and more black rope, I started using it to outline the mountains, and it completely changed my work for the better.
So when I got the idea to use an orange outline instead of black for this piece, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. I loved the initial sketch, but once I started putting rope to board, I fell even more in love with the piece and the idea. I don’t see myself doing this all the time, but I can definitely see it becoming an occasional design choice.
This piece is of The Three Towers, a famous rock formation in Patagonia. I haven’t had the chance to visit yet, but it’s high on my list—and creating this piece felt like getting one step closer to standing beneath them someday.
